Climate change impacts in Europe

چکیده
The PESETA research project integrates a set of high-resolution climate change projections and physicalmodels into an economic modelling framework to quantify the impacts of climate change on vulnerableaspects of Europe. Four market impact categories are considered (agriculture, river floods, coastal systems, and tourism) and one non-market category (human health). Considering the market impacts, without public adaptation and if the climate of the 2080s occurred today, the EU annual welfare loss would be in the range of 0.2% to 1%, depending on the climate scenario. However, there is large variation across different climate futures, EU regions and impact categories.Scenarios with warmer temperatures and higher sea level rise result in more severe economic damagefor the EU. Southern Europe, the British Isles and Central Europe North appear to be the most sensitiveregions to climate change. Northern Europe is the only region with net economic benefits, mainly drivenby the positive effects in agriculture. Concerning the contribution to the overall effects, coastal systems, agriculture and river flooding are the most important ones. The mission of the Joint Research Centre is to provide customer-driven scientific and technical support forthe conception, development, implementation and monitoring of European Union policies. As a serviceof the European Commission, the Joint Research Centre functions as a reference centre of science andtechnology for the Union. Close to the policy-making process, it serves the common interest of the MemberStates, while being independent of special interests, whether private or national. Climate change impacts, adaptive capacity, and vulnerability of European forest ecosystems
This study compiles and summarizes the existing knowledge about observed and projected impacts of climate change on forests in Europe. Forests will have to adapt not only to changes in mean climate variables but also to increased variability with greater risk of extremeweather events, such as prolonged drought, storms and floods. Sensitivity, potential impacts, adaptive capacity, and vulnerabil...
متن کاملChallenges to planning climate adaptation strategies in Europe
There is broad consensus that climate change impacts may lead to serious ecological, economic and social impacts across Europe, with some regions and sectors more deeply affected than others (EEA, 2012). Appropriate adaptation can reduce these impacts and, in some cases, yield benefits and business opportunities, but this often requires a multi-scale and multi-sector exercise in complex decisio...
متن کامل[Impacts of climate change on infectious diseases].
Climate warming may have significant impacts on human health, including changes in the distribution and seasonality of vector-borne diseases. We discuss the consequences of climate change on infectious diseases. Effects of transmission of the imported tropical diseases in Europe are discussed.
متن کاملInvestigation on Climate Change in Meteorological Stations of Guilan Province and its Impacts on Water Balance
Climate has always been changing during the lifetime of the earth, and has appeared in the form of the ice age, hurricanes, severe and sudden temperature changes, precipitation and other climatic elements, and has dramatically influenced the environment, and in some cases has caused severe changes and even destructions. Some of the most important aspects of climate changes can be found in preci...
متن کاملEconomic Evidence on the Health Impacts of Climate Change in Europe
BACKGROUND In responding to the health impacts of climate change, economic evidence and tools inform decision makers of the efficiency of alternative health policies and interventions. In a time when sweeping budget cuts are affecting all tiers of government, economic evidence on health protection from climate change spending enables comparison with other public spending. METHODS The review i...
